Mani Bhaumik is the inventor of the LASER technology which is used in Lasik eye surgery. He was born in a village in Bengal (India) when the independence movement was at its peak. His father was a school teacher and freedom fighter. He lived in abject poverty and was close to starvation and death many times in his childhood. He talks about how he was influenced by his father, grandmother, fellow freedom fighters and Gandhi. He says “Gandhi exhausted an entire empire by sheer force of his goodness”. During the famine in Bengal, his grandmother starved to death by giving her portion of the food to him.
He rose from such a background to become a great scientist and multi-millionaire. He also gives an honest account of how he indulged in his wealth. This book describes his spiritual journey, his discovery of god. He tries to explain god using Physics and how he does it, is mind blowing. He also proves that he is first a scientist and then a spiritualist. Here are few amazing facts from the book.
Ø If the rate of expansion of the universe during the time of Big Bang had varied by even 1/1050 the universe would not be suitable for life.
Ø The total energy of the universe is zero.
Ø An unmanifest field called the quantum field pervades the whole universe and is felt equally in all parts of the universe.
Ø The theorized size of the universe at the time of big bang is about one hundred millionth of a billionth of the size of a proton (if you can give it the dignity of size!!).
Ø Have you heard of the weak anthropic cosmological principle. It concludes that the observer is the participator in the creation.
Ø You can create ‘twin’ Photons and whatever be the distance that separates them, you change the state of one Photon, the other automatically and instantly adjusts its state.
A great Indian seer, Shankarcharya tells in one of his famous work, the world in only as large as your thoughts. When I read the work of great scientists, I think, it must feel so good to be one. Their mind itself is source of so much happiness; it makes their world so big.
Code name god is an inspiring story of a man who rose form abject poverty to great fame and wealth. But his greatness lies in the fact that he could recognize the limitations of his success. He could look back at his humble roots and derive richness from it. A Must, Must read.
Anyone thinking about having laser eye surgery should be aware of all the possible outcomes to their surgery. Doing your own research and educating yourself on the techniques, training, and results of laser eye surgery will be beneficial when you attend your consultation meeting with your surgeon.
Thanks John. My intention in reading the book was not to learn about the surgery. Infact the author says very little about the techniqus. I liked his views on science and god.
The book is very interesting and thought provoking. kindly suggest such books

Dear Shri Bhaumik,
I am reading yr book at present and am thrilled to go through. My ed – descipline also has been PHYSICS & MATHS up to M.Sc. – Hence interest in Metaphysics.
Although I am more than halfway through yr book, I can not resist the temptetion of writting the following.
You may have read a book – Celestial Influence – by Rodney Collins. His book – (in case u hv not read) – will add a lot of value to yr scientific as well as spiritual outlook of the universe. His writting is based on teachings of Gurjief & P.D.Ospenski.

yet to read.
Hi Archana
I have read this book almost a year ago and now I came to find your blog searching for Bhaumick’s latest book called “The Cosmic Detective.”Though I haven’t found much about this book on the internet but one thing I came to know is that it is meant for children and young readers. Considering that I have been a fan of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos and Contact (Awesome movie too), which contain some serious science other than fiction, I now presume that I don’t need to read this book as I might know much of it already.
If you have read it then can you write a brief review for me about it. Do you think this book can suit mature readers?
Kindly Reply.
i am not getting a copy of it to read.
in my place a very few sellers know the name of the book.
but still i am dying to read the book.
Yet to be read but I wil read it & I also want to research about matter
Hey! All you guys who have gone through the book. The book is really a benchmark as I never thought that any indian with such a humble background could actually write this book. As I am an avid reader of Dan brown and Freud books, this really blew me out of my senses. Personally I don’t believe in god but well it seems time has come when I give my belief a second thought. Looking forward for another such book.
I have read this book and have been re-visiting it often, starting randomly at some pages and ending at some other. First thing, it is really an interesting book to read, whatever may be your belief. And the god or religion or spirituality that he discusses in the book is very much unlike what people practice. The more you read his book, you tend to think he is a non-believer in the conventional sense of ‘faith’, as generally understood in the world today, which is just ritualistic.
is there any online link to download the book in pdf form
Dear Archana,
Just today i read an article in TOI, was very much inspired by the article when Mani Bhaumik said that it is unscientific to not to be inquisitive about one self. The article is rather awsome.
From TOI i came to know about the book, and i am dying for reading the book, looking forward for seizing the book. your blog also inspired a lot to read the book.
Today I read the ‘The Speaking tree’ column in TOI and found the article by MB very interesting. I definitely wish to read the book. The subject is thought provoking. Should be very enlightening.

Being an Indian and most importantly living at Midnapore, I am glad to read this book and happy to say that this is too good.
one of the best inspiring book…..i have over whelmed reading the book…………………
Since reading the book my atheism has given way to a scientific belief that there must have existed a super conciousness who trigerred the big bang in the pre space era and was responsible for the subsequent universe. This revealation has changed my life.

Anyone who wants a copy of CODE NAME GOD can order it on Flipkart.com and get it at your doorstep for 165/- only including postage!
When you keep reading this book you feel that you are promised an enlightened discussion on God both from scientific and spiritual points of view. Despite his lengthy discussions on Quantum theory he fails to fulfill that promise. His humble beginnings and subsequent ultra luxurious life style, are they relevant to the theme? He also drags in Gandhiji for apparently no connection with the theme. His advice on meditation at the final part of the book is also very superficial, lacking anything new and totally irrelevant to the thee again. If he had titled his book as his autobiography, I would not have raised any objection. With the title of “code name God” it is very disappointing.
